(Crain’s) — President-elect Barack Obama may feel a little more at home in Washington, D.C., now that he can enjoy Goose Island beer in the capital.

The Chicago-based beer maker announced on Thursday that its distributor landed deals with several Washington watering holes, including Capitol Hill’s Hawk and Dove. Popular Goose Island beers like Honker’s Ale and 312 are also on sale at Washington grocery and liquor stores, the company said in a statement.

“It’s flying off the shelves,” a representative of Capital Eagle Inc., Goose Island’s distributor said. “Lots of folks already knew about Goose Island. You just couldn’t get it (in Washington).”

The beer maker made it to Washington just in time for the inauguration, when Goose Island will be served at black-tie events such as the Heartland Dinner and casual celebrations such as the Big Shoulders Ball at the Black Cat, a popular Washington concert venue.
